13. What to Expect: The First Trimester

Feeling a whirlwind of emotions and sensations? That's completely normal! First-time pregnancy can be overwhelming, but guess what? You've got this! Let's dive into some common first-trimester experiences together.



When to spill the beans? It's a big question! Some say wait till the end of the first trimester, but we've got a different perspective! We recommend sharing your news with a few close friends or family members ASAP. You don't have to shout it from the rooftops (unless you want to, of course! 📣), but letting some loved ones in can be incredibly reassuring.


Why, you ask? Well, it's all about support. Going through a miscarriage alone can be tough, but when you share your pregnancy early, you've got your tribe by your side should you lose the pregnancy. Whether you decide to wait or shout it loud, do what feels right for YOU! Your journey, your choice!


Selecting the right provider for your birth is crucial! Whether you're starting with an ObGyn or a Midwife, you're in for an amazing ride. See our past blog on Picking you Provider for more tips!


First prenatal visit, here you come! Around 6 to 8 weeks pregnant, your ObGyn will take you on a journey through your medical history. Tests are likely to follow in the next visit. Stay tuned for more on that next week!



And then, it's ultrasound time! Usually around 8 weeks gestation, you'll get a peek at your little one. It might be a tad uncomfortable as it is done transvaginally, but it is the most accurate scan to determine your due date


Opted for a Midwife? Awesome choice! Their appointments are a bit longer, packed with nurturing care and guidance. Nutrition, exercise, and all the essentials – they've got you covered!


Speaking of nutrition, it's a vital part of a healthy pregnancy! But hey, don't stress too much. Make changes that work for YOU! And don't forget those prenatal vitamins. From pills to gummies and powders, there's something for everyone. Easy peasy!


Feeling tired? It's no wonder! Your body's working overtime to grow that tiny poppy seed into a lime-sized bundle of joy! Plus, you're crafting a placenta – talk about multitasking! Your body's hormones are also doing a merry dance. So yes, that nap is well-deserved!


Fatigue, mood swings, and a rollercoaster of sensations? Yep, it's all part of the first-trimester package! Remember, it's okay to feel all the feels. Give yourself grace, stay hydrated, snack often, and rest like a queen!
