5. Postpartum Hair loss

Vanessa Warren

Wow, oh wow, welcoming a precious little bundle of joy into your life is such an incredible journey, isn't it? But hey, it's not just your heart that gets a workout during pregnancy – your hair goes through some fascinating changes too!

During pregnancy, you might have noticed your luscious locks looking fuller and more fabulous than ever before. What's the secret sauce behind this? Well, it's all thanks to those wonderful hormones doing their magic in your body.

But, hang on to your hats (or should we say hairpins), because there's another hormonal twist post-baby! Your body experiences another shift, and all that extra hair you've been luxuriously hanging onto during pregnancy decides it's time to make a graceful exit.

Typically, we lose around 50 to 100 hairs every day, just as a part of the natural hair growth cycle. But during pregnancy, this number takes a little vacation, and you get to keep more of your precious strands.

Once those pregnancy hormones pack their bags and leave the building, the hairs that should've bid adieu earlier suddenly decide to make an appearance. It can be quite a shock, especially when you're already adjusting to your postpartum body. But worry not, my friend! We're here to help you navigate this hair-raising adventure.

To minimize this temporary hair loss, let's dive into some fabulous hair care routines that will make you feel like a superstar!

  1. Nourish from Within: Get all the proper nutrition your body craves, either through wholesome foods or with the help of a trusty multivitamin

  2. Gentle Conditioning: Opt for lightweight conditioners and apply them primarily to your hair ends – no need to weigh down those gorgeous tresses!

  3. Detangle with Love: Choose a wide-tooth brush or comb for detangling, giving your hair the tender loving care it deserves.

  4. Say No to Tight Styles: Avoid those super tight ponytails and buns; instead, opt for clips or scrunchies that are gentle on your locks.

These delightful methods can help slow down the hair loss, making it a more manageable experience. You'll still shed those extra hairs naturally, but it'll happen at a pace that's as gentle as a whisper in the wind.

And guess what? Once your body has bid farewell to that extra hair, it'll go back to the good old 50-100 hairs a day routine, just like in the pre-pregnancy days.

But hey, if you ever find yourself fretting about the amount of hair you're losing, remember this: Your worries are absolutely valid!

You know your body better than anyone else, and if something doesn't feel right, don't hesitate to speak up and seek assistance from your healthcare provider. They're there to support you every step of the way!

So, here's to embracing the incredible journey of motherhood, one strand of hair at a time!
